It was a devastatingly long weekend.

The aching pull in his chest to reach out to her even though he knew he shouldn’t. The throbbing much lower he strived to ignore.

He knew where she lived. Found her cell phone number on her newly constructed website.

But it was all useless. Charlotte somehow managed to become a permanent fixture in not only his most desirable office space, but in his mind.

It ached him to even think of going this route, but he couldn’t let it go any further. And there was only one way to ensure neither of them got hurt.

“You wanted to see me, Dean?” Sheryl walked into the Alpha Suite at his urgent call.

“Yes, I need you to find me a real estate lawyer.”

She frowned. “But what about Mr. Bradshaw?”

Dean rolled his eyes. “Apparently he doesn’t handle civil disputes. I need this lawyer to find a loophole in these two agreements.” He handed her Charlotte’s original lease agreement and her unlawful amendment.

“I see,” Sheryl hesitated.

“Is there a problem?”

“Well, it just seems like she could really use a break…”

“Sheryl, do you know how difficult it is to get a decent job these days?”

Her eyes went wide. “I’m on it, Dean.”

Dean dropped into his chair and rubbed the inner corners of his brows.

Then she walked in.

He knew she would at any moment. He felt her presence. And it bothered him that he did. He never felt anyone’s presence.

With all hesitation and avoidance being impossible, he looked up. She was absolutely glowing.

Her hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail; she wore a gray pencil skirt and white sleeveless top and… eye glasses. Had he not noticed that she wore glasses at times?

No. He could draw her out perfectly every time he saw her. Paint her perfectly arched brows and pursed lips in every challenge. Know exactly how much of his hand would cup that long smooth neck of hers and be able to count every beating pulse.

This was definitely a first. Clothing that covered her touchable knees, glasses that only accentuated her big brown eyes.

There was that throbbing again.

And this time, with her in the room, it was painful to ignore.

She paused for nearly a second to notice him at his desk and then marched to her own.

“Thought you’d choose to be constricted into your crammed little office downstairs today.”

He cocked his head and rested a knuckle on his chin. “My sincere apologies, were you hoping I’d be avoiding you?”

Her expression eerily resembled Sheryl’s from just moments ago. But knowing Charlotte, it wouldn’t take her long to adjust to the one-eighty in his attitude compared to Friday. “Of course not,” she answered after a moment, “I’m simply reminding you of my right to peace and quiet while I operate my business.”

“I’ll be out of your hair as soon as you have a client walk in here. Oh wait, those would all be mine,” he reminded her. He needed to show her he meant business. The woman had to go.

She smiled devilishly and walked around her desk.
